We’ve been getting many questions regarding the reporting of positive COVID cases and when a parent/guardian needs to keep their student home. Below are answers to the most frequently asked questions:
What do I do if my student tests positive for COVID?
Please contact your attendance office immediately and keep your student at home. The school will gather information about your student and the case will be reported to our school nurse. The nurse will review the information and make the mandated report of the positive case to Butte County Public Health. You will receive a return to school date after the information is reviewed. The nurse or Butte County Public Health may reach out to you if more information is needed.
LPHS: 538-2310, ext. 2209
OHS: 538-2320, ext. 3311
What do I do if my student was in the same classroom as a student who tested positive?
Even though your student may have been in the same class as a positive case, it does not mean they are at an increased risk of exposure. Those identified as having an increased risk of exposure to the positive case will be notified and will receive a return to school date along with recommendations on next steps.
Do I need to keep my student at home if someone in our household tested positive?
You need to keep your student home and notify the attendance office immediately. The school will gather information about the situation and the case will be reported to our school nurse. The nurse will review the information and you will receive a return to school date after the information is reviewed. The nurse or Butte County Public health may reach out to you if more information is needed.
My elementary or middle school student’s entire classroom is quarantined but this younger child hasn’t tested positive. Do I need to keep my high school student home?
Your high school student may go to school as long as they meet ALL of the criteria listed below. However, if your younger child’s health status changes or they test positive, please contact your attendance office immediately and keep your student home.
- They are not showing any symptoms.
- They are physically distanced (6 feet) from their younger sibling at all times during the quarantine period.
- They are wearing a mask any time they are within 6 feet of their sibling.
How do I request homework for my student who is quarantined?
Students can login to their Google Classrooms to retrieve and submit their assignments. If you do not have connectivity at home or a teacher doesn’t have assignments posted in Google Classroom, please call the number below:
LPHS: 538-2310, ext. 2211
OHS: 538-2320, ext. 3311
What happens if my student becomes sick while at school?
Each school has a quarantine room where students will be sent until they can be picked up. If your student drives themselves to school, you will be notified by the attendance office that they are being sent home.
Lastly, you can see the importance of making sure we have your correct contact information on file. If your address, phone number or email address changes during the school year, please login to the Aeries Portal to make the change. If you need help logging in, please contact your counseling office.
We are making every effort to keep our schools open and appreciate the cooperation and honesty from our families who are reporting positive cases and exposures.
