Home and Hospital Program

The district's home and hospital program serves students with a temporary disability that makes attendance in regular or alternative education classes impossible or inadvisable and the student is unable to leave home or the hospital.  A temporary disability is defined as a physical, mental or emotional disability incurred while the student is enrolled in a regular or alternative program and after which, the student can reasonably be expected to return to classes without special interventions.  A temporary disability does not necessarily include a disability for which a student is identified as an individual with exceptional needs. (EC 56026).

If a student requires home hospital instruction, the parent/guardian will provide the school with a signed Medical Report for Home Instruction by a medical professional. Once the school district has received this form, instruction will begin no later than five working days.  Instruction offered will be one hour of instruction for every day of instruction offered by the district in the regular program (EC 48206.3).
