I graduated from Oroville High School as did my four children; two from Las Plumas and two from Oroville.  I have lived in Oroville 90% of my life except for college and working for the San Ramon Valley Unified School District as a reading and speech and language therapist.

My goal as a trustee is to support the Superintendent in achieving academic success for all students and promoting a happy, safe, high school experience for all.

Thank you for taking the time to read this narrative about my background. I attended Oroville Christian School from K-8 th and graduated from Las Plumas High School in 2002. I served in the United States Marine Corps from 2003-2007. “No greater love than this; than that a man lay down his life for his friends.” After serving in the Marine Corps, I received an Associates of Science in Nursing, Associates of Behavioral and Social Science, and an Associates of Arts at Butte College, then a Bachelors of Arts in Criminal Justice at Chico State University. Currently I am pursuing a Masters in Legal Studies. I’m currently a nurse at Oroville Hospital, where I have been working since 2004. I also serve as President of the Oroville Union High School District Board. I am actively involved with our community, church, and numerous organizations within Butte County. I have had the opportunity to travel within California and Washington DC, discussing numerous current affairs with our appointed leaders. I have been married to my wonderful wife, Amber Sweeney, for 10 years and we have three boys whom we love and adore. I have been raised to do what is right; regardless if popular or not. I hold conviction that God is always watching and one day I will be held accountable for my actions. I feel it is important to serve our country and community, to preserve or improve our way of life and create leaders for tomorrow’s generation.

I have made my home in Oroville since 1979. I received my BA and MA degrees from Chico State and retired in 2000 after a 36 year career in public education, 31 of those as a teacher/administrator in the Oroville Elementary School District. From the time I was a teenager, I have been devoted to kids of all ages. I have been active as a volunteer in the OUHSD since 1977 when I began doing public address announcing for OHS and LPHS track and field meets. After 41 years, I continue to enjoy doing this. I also announced home football games for OHS, LPHS, and Butte College for over 20 years. I love sports! Since 2009, I have been a member of the OUHSD Hall of Fame Committee, serving as its chairman since 2010. I am active in our community and served on the State Theatre Advisory committee, the City of Oroville Park Commission and am on the leadership team of the local retired teachers association. Other memberships include the Butte and Colusi County Historical Societies, Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, and an active member and past president of the Fellows Club of Oroville. I am married to Oroville native and OHS alumna, Charlene Tuhey and our son is also an OHS graduate. I love Oroville and its surrounding beauty, and am dedicated to doing whatever I can to ensure that EVERY OUHSD student has the optimum education and training for success in the life he/she chooses.
