Indian Education

Honoring Culture, Supporting SuccessThe Indian Education Program at Oroville Union High School District is dedicated to empowering Native American and Alaska Native students through academic support, cultural enrichment, and community engagement. We work to ensure each student has access to the resources they need to thrive in school while celebrating and preserving their cultural identity.

Indian Education Program Overview

Authorized under Title VI of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015, the Indian Education Program is designed to support Native American students in meeting and exceeding state academic content and achievement standards.

The program provides:

  • In-class academic support

  • Culturally relevant mentoring activities

  • Opportunities for increased parent and community engagement through the Indian Education Parent Advisory Committee

OUHSD Consortium Project

The OUHSD Consortium addresses the academic and cultural needs of American Indian students to ensure they meet the same challenging state standards as all students. The consortium includes the following districts:

  • Oroville Union High School District – 210 eligible students

  • Oroville City Elementary School District – 132 eligible students

  • Thermalito Union School District – 54 eligible students

To qualify, students must have a completed Title VI ED 506 Indian Student Eligibility Certification Form on file. Forms are available at school sites or by contacting the program coordinator.

Once submitted, a 506 form remains valid for the duration of the student’s enrollment within the consortium.
