English Language Learners
Supporting Multilingual Success in OUHSD
Here at Oroville Union High School District (OUHSD), our English Language Learner (ELL) program is dedicated to empowering students whose primary language is not English. These students are in the process of developing English proficiency and may benefit from specialized support to access the full academic curriculum.
Our mission is to ensure every ELL student becomes fluent in English—both academically and socially—while achieving success across all subject areas. We offer tailored instruction, inclusive teaching strategies, and culturally responsive support that nurtures confidence, competence, and a strong sense of belonging.
ELL students are identified through state-approved assessments and supported through services such as:
-
Daily English Language Development (ELD) classes
-
Integrated instruction using SDAIE (Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English)
-
Reclassification procedures once English proficiency is met
-
Family engagement through DELAC and site-based ELAC committees
We believe that multilingualism is a valuable strength, and we are committed to honoring students’ cultural and linguistic backgrounds while preparing them for college, career, and active participation in the community.
