Student Services and Support

Equity in Access. Excellence in Support. Empowering Every Student to SuccessThe Student Services & Support Department works to ensure every student in OUHSD receives equitable access to academic and social-emotional support. We collaborate with families, schools, and community partners to meet the diverse needs of foster youth, homeless students, English learners, and more

  • Alternative Education: Offers voluntary transfer to an alternative setting with tutoring, counseling, and structure—especially for students facing homelessness, foster care, teen parenting, or newcomer challenges 
     

  • DELAC & English Language Learners: Supports our diverse multilingual learners and engages their families through advisory groups (DELAC) and language acquisition initiatives
     

  • Foster Youth & Homeless/Unaccompanied Youth: Operating under California law (AB 490), the district ensures educational stability, access to counseling, tutoring, enrichment, and active coordination with social services
     

  • Indian Education (Title VI): Supports Native American students via culturally‑relevant academic mentoring, parent advisory committees, and collaboration with neighboring districts
     

  • Section 504 & Special Education:

    • Section 504 provides accommodations and anti-discrimination protections under federal law, managed by school counseling staff 

    • Special Education aligns with IDEA, offering a full range of services (IEPs, case management, SELPA partnership) tailored to students' individual needs
       

  • Student Success Teams: Multi-disciplinary teams at each school collaborate with families and providers to proactively identify and support students needing additional assistance
