I COLLEGE APPLICATIONS
A. The priority filing period for applications to C.S.U. (California State University) is October 1 to
November 30, 2007 and for U.C. (University of California) campuses is from November 1 to
November 30, 2007. Colleges recommend that students apply as early as possible during this
filing period. Student must apply online.
For CSU campuses, apply online at www.csumentor.edu .
For UC campuses, apply online at www.universityofcalifornia.edu/apply .
The application fees are: for the CSU system, $55.00; for UC system, $60.00 for each campus.
For Community Colleges (2-year colleges), Trade and Technical Schools, Private Colleges and
Out-of-State Colleges and Universities, application filing dates will vary. Be sure to check with a
counselor for any of these schools.
Applications for Butte College for Fall, 2008, will be completed in November, 2007. The Butte
College application is now ONLINE. The OHS Counselors have set up workshops November
26 and 27 in the Computer Lab in the Library so you can complete the ONLINE application.
2. Butte College may serve as a transfer school to a 4-year college, such as a CSU or UC campus.
3. Butte College also has many one and two-year career training programs.

1. Schedule an appointment with a counselor if you need some help in completing an application.

A. PRINCIPAL’S LEADERSHIP AWARD

B. SAE ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP
1. DEADLINE DATE: December 1, 2007
C. AXA ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
1. DEADLINE DATE: December 15, 2007
D. GATES MILLENIUM SCHOLARS SCHOLARSHIP
1. DEADLINE DATE: Paper application must be postmarked by December 31, 2007.
Online application must be submitted by January 11, 2008,
11:59 PM (Eastern Standard Time)
III. NEW SCHOLARSHIP AND AWARD ANNOUNCEMENTS (More information
and the applications regarding these scholarships are available in the Counseling Office.)
A. METRO PCS COMMUNITY SCHOLARS SCHOLARSHIP
1. Fifteen $1000 scholarships will be awarded.
2. Eligibility:
a. Must plan to enroll full-time at a 2 or 4 year college or university.
b. The primary criteria used to select scholarship recipients are demonstrated
involvement in volunteerism with community organizations and participation in
activities that give back to the community.
c. Financial need is not considered.
d. More details are available at www.metropcs.com/scholarship where you can download an
application.
3. DEADLINE DATE: Application with official transcript must be postmarked by
November 29, 2007.
B. CSU, CHICO SCHOLARSHIPS
1. This is an ONLINE application.
2. The website to apply is: www.csuchico.edu/scholarships .
3. Some of the scholarships are merit-based (GPA) and others look at financial need. So you need to
complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form which is due March 2, 2008.
4. DEADLINE DATE: CSU, Chico ONLINE scholarship deadline is January 1, 2008 (by midnight Pacific Time.)
C. BURGER KING SCHOLARS PROGRAM
1. Up to 700 $1000 scholarships will be available.
2. Criteria:
a. Must have a 2.5 GPA or higher.
b. Must work part-time an average of 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year.
c. Must be actively involved in community service activities.
d. Must demonstrate financial need.
e. Must plan to enroll in a 2 or 4 year college/university or vocational/technical school by
Fall, 2008.

4. DEADLINE DATE: February 15, 2008
D. U.S. BANK INTERNET SCHOLARSHIP
1. Thirty (30) $1000 scholarships will be awarded in a random drawing.
2. Eligibility:
a. Must plan to attend a two or four-year college full time Fall, 2008.
b. Recipients are selected through a random drawing process.
c. No essays and no minimum GPA required.
d. You must apply on-line at www.usbank.com/studentbanking .

E. ORDER OF SONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA GRAND LODGE OF CALIFORNIA
AND SONS OF ITALY WESTERN FOUNDATION 2008 SCHOLARSHIP
1. Scholarships are available in 3 categories: Academic, Athletic and Italian Language Study
Grants in Italy for the Summer, 2008
.2. Eligibility:
a. Must be wholly or partially of Italian descent.
b. Must be enrolled in an accredited College, University or Community College for
Fall, 2008.
c. Applications applying for the Athletic Scholarship must be pursuing a career in
sports or other sports related profession.
d. Paper applications are available or you can apply online at www.sonsofitalyca.org
3. DEADLINE DATE: February 29, 2008 (Postmark Deadline).
IV. BUTTE COLLEGE FAMILY DAY – SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2007
1. The purpose of this day is to allow students and families an opportunity to see first-hand the
opportunities available to them at Butte College (Hmong and Spanish translation available).
2. Activities and events planned are:
a. Financial Aid Workshops
b. Campus Tours
c. Information about all of Butte College’s programs.
d. Scholarship Drawing
e. Free lunch.
f. Free tickets to that day’s Butte College Football Game.
3. Informational fliers are available in the Counseling Office.
V. FAFSA PIN NUMBER – APPLY NOW
1. Apply for your PIN number at www.pin.ed.gov – both you and a parent need a PIN number.
It is your electronic signature.
2. The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) will be available ONLINE on
January 1, 2008 at: www.finaid.org .
3. FAFSA must be submitted ONLINE by March 2, 2008.
VI. FINANCIAL AID PARENT/GUARDIAN/STUDENT INFORMATION NIGHT
A. Financial Aid Information Night will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at 6:30 PM. in E-4.
B. All seniors and their parents/guardians are encouraged to attend.
VII. LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS
A. Applications will be available during Spring semester.
B. Applying is the student’s responsibility.
VIII. LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION
A. College applications and scholarships may require letters of recommendation.
1. You should give the person you are asking to write a letter of recommendation for you
at least a two week notice.
B. It is suggested you use the "Student Fact Sheet" to give to the person you want to write a
letter for you.
C. The "Student Fact Sheet" is available in the Counseling Office.
IX. UPCOMING EVENTS
