Hello, my name is Russell Sorenson, and I teach
Senior English at Las Plumas High School. I've been teaching at Las
Plumas since the fall of 1986. Prior to that, I taught at W. T. Ellis
Continuation High School in Marysville for four years. It was while I
was at W. T. Ellis that Marysville/Yuba City had the dubious honor of being
named the worst place to live in the United States.
My home is Chico, and with the exception of a
year's leave of absence in Hawaii in 1995 -- 1996, and a year and a half
while teaching in Marysville, I have lived my entire life in Chico. In
fact, my parents were living on the Chico State campus in veterans' housing
when I was born in 1955. Naturally, I attended CSU, Chico. I
graduated with a BA in Communications in 1979, and received a second BA in
English in December, 1981.
I have enjoyed my career at Las Plumas, during
which I have taught all levels of English, although I definitely enjoy
working with juniors and seniors the most. It is a unique opportunity
for me each day to interact with a fascinating group of people, both in the
classroom and the faculty room.
