Welcome to English 12
The English curriculum at Las Plumas High School is literature based. This means that students read a wide variety of literary works (including plays, short stories, essays, poems, and novels), and react to the works through discussion, written response, and examination. Additionally, students will see a number of films that are related generically and thematically to the various literary works covered in class. Some or all of the following major works will be required reading during the 2004 -- 2005 school year: The Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare Pygmalion by G. Bernard Shaw Lord of the Flies by William Golding Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan The following literature textbook will be used throughout the year: Prentice Hall Literature -- Timeless Voices, Timeless Themes: The British Tradition
