Mrs. Ross' Classroom Expectations
ALL STUDENTS CAN LEARN
There are no exceptions. As a fair and reasonable teacher, I expect the same in return. Making an effort to be PUNCTUAL, PREPARED AND POLITE will ensure success in my class.
FIRST PRIORITIES
Keep all your English papers in your three-ring binder, including assignments, handouts, tests, etc. Never, never, never, throw anything away. Final exams are comprehensive and study materials are invaluable. Keep your binder organized and always bring it to class. Avoid using the excuse, "It's in my binder."
JOURNAL
The best way to improve our writing skills is through practice. Plan to practice in your spiral notebook on an almost daily basis. Journals should be left in class and are due at the end of each quarter. Writing in your journals is one of the easiest ways to earn points in my class.
POINT SHEET
You are required to keep a point sheet to track your grade. You should always know exactly how many points you have earned and how many points are possible. Your grade is not a mystery. And yes, we will do math in English.
LATE HOMEWORK
Turning in late homework is a hassle for you, and it's an even bigger problem for me. You can expect homework on average three (3) times a week. Homework is due at the beginning of class on the day it is due! I DO NOT ACCEPT LATE HOMEWORK!
EXTRA CREDIT
I seldom give extra credit. Take advantage of all extra credit opportunities. Your grade may depend on it. I NEVER give extra credit at the end of a grading period. Do not wait to boost your grade. Do your homework.
GRADING SCALE
I use the following scale when determining grades:
A 90-100%
B 80-89%
C 70-79%
D 60-69%
TARDINESS AND DETENTIONS
Students are tardy if they are not in their seats by the time the bell rings. Students have one free tardy per quarter to use as they see fit. Detentions are 15 minutes long and are always served after school. Missing detentions earns an additional detention.
