Jobs At School

Things that I am doing at school:

My first priority is the safety of all the students, staff and security of the school.  This job comes first over any other job.  As a paramedic, I respond, see and evaluate all the injuries that happen on campus.  I determine if the injury or medical problem is serious enough to call for an ambulance, or can be treated by me.  Then the parents will be called and a decision is made to either keep the student in school or send home. I am a paramedic who attends all of the Las Plumas and Oroville High School football games and attends to any injuries that happen during the game.

As a security officer I keep the school safe from people coming onto our campus that are not students at Las Plumas High School.  Watching for any unsafe acts by students and looking for any hazards at the school that might get someone hurt.  Sometimes I spend the night here watching the campus to make sure that projects that students set up for homecoming and special events are not damaged.

I teach a lesson for some health classes on drug and alcohol abuse. I am a leader in the Every Fifteen Minutes Program, where kids learn what happens when someone becomes intoxicated and gets behind the wheel of a vehicle.

I am head of one of the family groups for Safe School Ambassadors, where students help keep the school safe.

I'll go to get students to see the asst. principal for bad behavior or any other reason; I search lockers, backpacks, cars, students, and sometimes I'll run into a threat on campus.

Once in a while I'll take over the classroom if the teacher is not there yet, or would need to leave the classroom.

My least favorite thing I do is to break up fights.  Fighting is dangerous because it makes campus tense even for those who are not part of the situation.  The effects of a fight can be seen in all the students.

I have paid for students lunch when they could not afford to eat. I take students home that have missed the bus or they have to walk in bad weather. I do this to keep the students safe from any harm when I can.

I try to help solve disagreements between couples; give them a hug to make them feel better and try to make there next decision the best one they can make.

I also help student who were kicked out of their home. Girls who come to talk to me because they think they are pregnant and need some one to talk to I listen to what they have to say about their problems, and if they need to I'll let them cry on my shoulder and try my best to comfort them.

To me this job is the best for me better than any other job in the world.  I get to help and see students grow and learn.  I look forward to each year to see the seniors come down the ramp with their diplomas after watching them grow and learn after 4 years of high school.
