I
am Gary Nystuen, Las Plumas campus supervisor. I lived in L.A. a few years
for schooling, but other than that I've lived in Oroville my
entire life. I graduated from Las Plumas
High School, class of 1971. Before I graduated I joined the EI Medio Fire
Department and that was where my career started in emergency medicine. In
1972, I started with the local ambulance service in Oroville and went
through the second class of EMT Training at Butte Collage. In 1983, I went
to Paramedic school at Daniel Freeman Hospital, which is the classroom
training site for UCLA. I received training at Hollywood Presbyterian
Hospital in Hollywood and Martin Luther King Hospital in Watts. Field
training was with the Long Beach Fire Department in Long Beach, Ca. When I
returned to Oroville after training, I worked for the local ambulance
service for full time until 2005, I came here as a campus supervisor.
I am still with the EI Medio
Fire Department and currently hold the rank of Asst. Fire Chief.
Due to illness of our fire chief, I was made the Fire Chief for about one
year in 2001. Now the Fire Chief is back and I returned to the rank of Asst.
Fire Chief. I have received training on heavy rescue, swift water rescue,
confined space rescue, over the edge rescue, explosive and bomb detection,
ICS 400 major incident command, Safety Officer, Strike Team leader, Arson
Bomb training, Arson Investigator and a member of the Butte County Arson
Task Force, Arrest and Take down tactics, Weapons Training, and I am a sworn
Peace Officer.
I
have four children. Jill, who is a Paramedic and works for the local
ambulance service. Adam, who is a Paramedic and Firefighter of Roseville.
Emily is currently a junior at Oroville High School, and Gary who is a 8th
grader at Hank Marsh Middle School In Chico.
