Bagpiping Soccer Bamboo Traveling
The Hyper Piper SJ Quakes Bamboo Countries
Sometimes I'm called “The Hyper Bagpiper”. Kind of fits, doesn't it? I started playing the bagpipes about ten years ago. Now, I teach lessons, attend bagpiping camps, and play with a Canadian Pipe Band; we just returned from a trip to Pasadena, where we marched (in the rain) at the Rose Bowl Parade. I've been playing soccer since I can remember. In high school in Los Altos, my friends and I started a club team that eventually became an official high school team. After high school, I played with the San Francisco Earthquakes, a semi-pro team. During those days, I suffered two knee injuries, but surgeries have allowed me to continue to play lots of recreational soccer. In addition to playing, I have also coached a number of teams, including the LPHS Boys' Soccer Team for over 15 years. I just recently retired after the 2004 season. My fasination with Bamboo was sparked by my good friend and former instructor, Gordon Holler. Bamboo is a very unique grass that does well, with a lot of watering, in the Oroville climate. I currently have 400 varieties of Bamboo. It's fun! It's green! It grows and grows! And how about them shoots? Tasty with shrimp! I love learning about and experiencing other cultures. To get a first-hand experience, it's best to travel! I've been to many countries...Morocco, Switzerland, Mexico, and Norway to name a few. Maybe I'll revisit Germany this summer to practice my German, and catch a few of the 2006 World Cup Games. Viel Spaß!
