COURSE TITLE:    Self-Defense

LENGTH OF COURSE:    One Year

GRADE LEVEL:    10-12

TYPE OF CREDIT: Physical Education

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Self-defense (Jujitsu/Judo) is a class for all students of every level and ability. No prior martial arts experience is needed. Parent permission is required. Students will be introduced to a variety of falls, rolls, holds, throws, defensive hand and foot techniques, and traditional Jujitsu etiquette. Exercise, self-discipline, and mental health are emphasized while training each day. Students have the option to test and be promoted each semester to a higher level. At each level students are challenged with more advanced techniques. The class is designed to promote self-esteem and confidence while learning self-protection.

National Standards

Increase to at least 50% the proportion of children and adolescents in grades 1-12 who participate in daily school physical education.

Increase to at least 50% the proportion of school physical education class time that students spend being physically active, preferably engaged in lifetime physical activities.
