AP Statistics

COURSE TITLE: AP Statistics

LENGTH OF COURSE: One Year

TYPE OF CREDIT: Math Elective (10 credits) (Weighted Grade)

GRADE LEVEL: 11-12

PREREQUISITES: Algebra II or Math Analysis

ONLINE COURSE:

The mission of the UC College Prep Initiative (UCCP) is to provide online Advanced Placement (AP) and Honors courses to high school students who otherwise would not have the opportunity to achieve eligibility or competitive eligibility for admission to the University of California and other top universities.

UCCP provides online courses, textbooks, tutoring and AP test preparation at no cost to eligible high school students.

UCCP courses are approved by the UCCP Policy Committee, meet California curriculum standards, and are fully articulated with UC admissions requirements. Courses have been selected from several distance-learning organizations in order to provide services that meet the diverse needs of schools across California. Courses generally deliver the material to students using a combination of Internet,, CD-ROM technology, and textbooks. In most cases, an experienced online instructor is available to grade assignments, confer with students via e-mail and communicate in real-time during online office hours.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

AP Statistics gives students hands-on experience collecting, analyzing, graphing, and interpreting real-world data. They will learn to effectively design and analyze research studies by reviewing and evaluating real research examples taken from daily life. The next time they hear the results from another poll or study, they will know whether the results are valid. As the art of drawing conclusions from imperfect data and the science of real world uncertainties, statistics plays an important role in many fields. The equivalent of an introductory college-level course, AP Statistics prepares students for the AP Exam and for further study in science, sociology, medicine, engineering, political science, geography, and business.
