Bond Measure J November of 2002, the Oroville Union High School District placed before the voters of the District, Measure J a 10 million dollar school construction bond. The voters of the District approved Measure J by a vote of 6,809 (59.8%) to 4570 (40.2%) , 55% being needed for passage. Setting into place a 5 year building project for Oroville, Las Plumas and Prospect High Schools as well as Community Day School.
Oroville High, the oldest of the O.U.H.S.D schools, had a 2.5 million dollar modernization and hardship project started in the summer of 2003. The M wing, consisting of the band room, library and classrooms, were modernized, with the project being completed in 2004 by Dale Green Construction of Yuba City. Followed by the roofing of the gymnasium, a wing of classrooms, the student union / cafeteria and school offices in the fall and winter of 2004. Roofing work was preformed by Don George Roofing of Oroville. This part of Oroville High's projects were paid for by state modernization and hardship funds.
Community Day School, a three-room school for district students with individual needs. The school was started in the spring of 2004 and it's first students attended classes in the winter of the same year. Community Day School was paid for by Measure J and state matching funds.
The Las Plumas project will start in the summer of 2005. We will see the construction of a fine arts complex, an agricultural science classroom wing and a gymnasium. The Preliminary Services Agreement for the Las Plumas project was awarded to Carey Construction of Oroville on April 20, 2005. This project is being done as a lease/leaseback contract. Following a period of new construction, Las Plumas will be going through state modernization of it's original buildings that are forty-five years old. Las Plumas High new construction paid for by Measure J and state matching funds. Modernization will be paid for by state modernization funds
Oroville High project will start also in the summer of 2005 with the building of a media center / library and classroom and a industrial arts complex. Following the compaction of these project Oroville will see a new science classroom wing built. The Preliminary Services Agreement for the Oroville project was awarded to Carey Construction of Oroville on April 20, 2005. The project is to be brought back to the Board within 30 days for final approval. This project is being done as a lease/leaseback contract. Oroville Highs new construction paid for by Measure J and state matching funds.
Prospect High will be going through State Modernization of it's original building, they are over thirty years old. The cost of this project is to be about 750,000 dollars and should start in the summer of 2005 Modernization will be paid for by state modernization funds
