Challenge Charter
High School
officially opened its doors in January of 1998. At that time there
were four teachers, one secretary and approximately ninety students.
Today we have grown to two administrators, two secretaries, 9
teachers, one para-educator and almost 170 students!
Such is the story of
growth for charter schools throughout California. Currently there
are approximately 400 charter schools operating in the state of
California. These schools range in size from 25 students to over
1,000. Some are classroom based, some are independent study, home
study and some are conversion schools- schools that existed previously
and later converted to charter school status.
Just like the diversity
in public schools, some charters are urban, others rural. There
are elementary, middle and high school charters. There are charter
schools in the middle of downtown Los Angeles, and charter schools
way up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
At the core of the charter
school movement is the commitment to parental involvement, and the
belief that all children can learn and should be provided alternative
educational options. Charter leaders believe parents and students
have a right to choose where their children will be educated.
On this site you will
find the text of our second charter document. This charter is due
to expire in the summer of 2009. As a result, we will be working
with the Oroville Union High School District this year to renew
our charter and continue operating our school. You will also find
documents which explain our student achievement goals, standardized
test scores and copies of our School Accountability Report Card.
Should you have any questions
about the attached documents, please do not hesitate to contact
the school.
