Groundbreaking Ceremony for the New School

They brought out the gold shovels and white hard hats again and broke ground Wednesday on Challenge Charter High School's new home in Bechtel Field off Mitchell Avenue.

A happy staff, principal and some well wishers gathered at the site near Oroville High's track to celebrate the summer construction of the new campus that is to provide the ninth through 12th grade school a more permanent home.

Challenge Charter High's new home will include classrooms for English, math, an independent study room, two science lab buildings and a computer lab, Marchant said. It also is to feature a library with music room, an administration building and parking plus a shade structure for outdoor eating and relaxing.

The $1 million project will consist of 10 relocatable buildings installed on foundations and put at ground level this summer. They also will be joined together and look like regular school buildings instead of the conventional portables.
