Mission Statement

Challenge Charter High School will provide opportunities for student growth in three challenge areas:

Educational Challenge, Personal Challenge, and Social Challenge.

Development of these goals will aid students in becoming complex thinkers and self-directed learners who are quality producers, contributing to the community.

What is a charter school?

A charter school is a structural reform that redesigns the way schools organize themselves. The rationale for charters is, by freeing schools from bureaucratic constraints imposed by the education code, they will be able to provide improved educational opportunities for students. A charter school is a separate and distinct school in the district. Challenge Charter High School was designed by a small group of teachers to meet specific needs of students and is teacher/student/and parent driven. The intent of Challenge Charter High School is to meet the academic, personal and social needs of the student. We are committed to assisting all students in mastering the courses necessary to pursue technical/vocational school, college or a university. We currently serve a broad range of students, including those who seek admission to a vocational/technical program, community college or a university. The educational strategy is based on independent study and small group  learning. Students, parents, and teachers are all responsible for accomplishing these goals. Challenge Charter High School opened in the spring semester of 1998.

Diploma

Students who attend and successfully fulfill the requirements for graduation will be granted a regular high school diploma. Students are required to fulfill requirements in each of the three challenge areas, thereby meeting the standard graduation requirements and complete a total of 220 credits. In addition, beginning with the Class of 2004, students must pass the California High School Exit Exam.
